When people design a website, they often forget to include a link to their homepage on their secondary pages. If you do not have a homepage link then your visitors may never be able to get back to the main part of your site. This article contains a number of tips on how to properly add a homepage link, so your visitors can always find a way home!

Avoid cramming page elements together. Each section of your page should be naturally separated from each other, as this makes the purpose of each section more clear. The easiest way to separate sections is by using DIVs, but there are other ways, including absolute positioning (not recommended), the CSS margin command, and floats.

You want to ensure that your site is easily able to be scanned. Usability tests have determined that the majority of online visitors arent going to read all content but instead scan for something interesting. Using text that is emphasized to break it into sections that are easily scanned ensures your readers are more likely to return. Additionally, keep your most important info at the top of the page. This all leads to an experience that is more satisfying to your visitors as they can always find what they are looking for quickly and easily.

Use images wisely. Bitmap images do not tend to fare well for internet use, and some GIFs do not work well with lots of color. Image size is important as well, as larger images may make your viewers have to wait for them to download. Choose smaller images, and use them sparingly to make your site more manageable.

Test your website in the most popular browsers and platforms to make sure that it displays correctly. Sometimes scripts that work in one browser may not produce the same results in another browser. So you may need take extra measures, like adding a function for browser detection, in order to ensure that your website will display properly under most conditions.

If you intend to use advertisements on your site as a way to increase your earnings, make sure to maintain an appropriate ratio. Keeping your advertisements at no more than 25 percent of your content ensure your site is not cluttered with too many of them. Just like people would not watch television if it was nothing but commercials, site visitors are less likely to stay on your site if you have too many advertisements.

Make text easy to ready by using colors that contrast or backgrounds that are easy to read text on. When your text is harder to read because the background or text color creates eye strain or portions of text that are unreadable, site visitors are less likely to stick around.

Make sure your navigation is simple to use. Where your links are will determine if visitors can get around your site. The structure of navigation should be consistent, clean and user friendly to offer the best experience.

Step up your creativity when you write your sites "About Us" page. Web designers often forget to be creative when they create the company bio area of the site. Your site doesnt have to be one of those sites, though! Let your visitors know a little bit about you. Share tidbits of information such as your business goals, your beginnings in web design and the sources of your inspiration.

You need not develop a complete mastery of the principles of web design, but becoming familiar with the basics of the field will serve you very well. Place it in an easy-to-find location. Use these tips to know best where to put these links on your website.
